OTHER REFERENCES

ALEXANDRIAN WITCHCRAFT
The following collection of film links are a reference for anyone interested looking at the history and practices of Alex Sanders through archival footage. For many, our first encounter of Witchcraft was through books about Alex Sanders; (such as Stewart Farrar's classic book "What Witches Do"). Video and film provide a more immediate experience or encounter of talent, wit and personality that was Alex Sanders.

Alex Sanders was born June 6, 1916 and died on April 30, 1988; which co-incidentally is the sabbat of Beltane in the Northern Hemisphere.

Much of what is practiced in contemporary Witchcraft has been influenced by Alex Sanders, and that includes workshops such as "Casting the Witch's Circle". The workshop is an introduction to the core practices used by our local Sydney Coven, but has been deeply influenced by the Alexandrian Craft.

THE OCCULT EXPERIENCE
A fascinating documentary, "The Occult Experience" by Nevill Drury. was filmed in the 1980s where Nevill interviews Alex Sanders in what is arguably one of the best interviews given by Alex. Nevill Drury is an Australian author of many occult books exploring shamanism and western magical traditions, as well as art, music, and anthropology.

Initiation Into The Sacred Mysteries
Alex Sanders I think had a good understanding of just how the audiences of the 1970s loved elements of titillation. In a sense it's the voyeuristic quality of these films that enables the public-viewer to watch them, considering that Witchcraft was otherwise labeled 'wicked', 'evil' and a 'sin' against Christian values and sensibilities.

Ritual Magick of Alex Sanders

The making of the fith-fath by Alex Sanders. In the ritual he combines the use of ritual magic, hermetic magic and witchcraft. It's an interesting example of the fusion of magickal practices that have typified many contemporary forms of Witchcraft.

Maxine Sanders
A short interview with Maxine Sanders on a Dutch program about Witchcraft.

Handfasting Ritual
The handfasting ritual of Alex Sanders and Maxine (Morris). According tothe commentator they used an Ancient Greek-based ritual.

A short selection of other interesting video references

ROSALEEN NORTON & KINGS CROSS
Rosaleen Norton is Australia's best-known Witch and is almost as well-known as Kings Cross itself, where she lived for most of her life. Born 2 October 1917 and died 5 December 1979. In addition to being a pagan ritualist, Rosaleen Norton was also a natural trance artist and exhibited her work publically in Cafes in Kings Cross.
The following link is just a longer recording of the Interview with Rosaleen Norton, but is not as clear.

CAROLE CHAPMAN
Carole Chapman is an Alexandrian High Priestess who shares her experience and memory of working with Alex Sanders and the Alexandrian Craft. This short sample interview was produced by well-known Australian Witch Deborah Gray. The DVD, called "Wish on a Spell", also has interviews with Tim Hartridge and David Garland in the Witches Weekend.

CORNISH WITCHCRAFT
A variety of interesting interviews and slide shows of items from a personal collection of artefacts used within traditional Cornish Witchcraft. There's also information about the Witchcraft Museum in Boscastle, local festivals and an interview with Cecil Williamson on West Country Witchcraft.

HOW I BECAME WICCAN
Pagyptsian is a young teen who is exploring questions facing many young people about their spirituality and religion. She seems to have stumbled into Wicca and Paganism, but found it to be a right fit for her. What strikes the viewer about this clip is the openness and honesty that Pagyptsian offers us, and her unbias approach to explore and question who and what she really believes, rather simply accepting the orthodox religious traditions around her.

THE RAVEN & THE ROSE
A professional documentary by National Geographic in exploration of Beltane celebrations in the U.K. We are introduced to members of "The Raven and The Rose" coven and their gradual acceptance into the their local village community through participation in the Beltane street-parade.

KATE WEST & ANGER MANAGEMENT!
A hilarious look at how well known English Witch, Kate West helps Tom, a young man with "Prince Harry looks", but a sever problem with rage.
Kate West is better known for her introductory series of books on "Real Witchcraft" published by Element.
